In 1978 we acquired our first general-purpose computer and with it we started to do Computer Aided Design "CAD" (of course nobody called it CAD in those days). Within a few years we had a number of computers Networked in a flexible efficient way which was the envy of many of our customers and suppliers. Inevitably we were pressed to provide advice, practical help, and support for their computer systems and the PRL COMPUTER division was launched.

We soon entered the field of inter computer communication and networking. Our early products included computers that can replace punched tapes and the like on machine tools whilst adding extra intelligence, processing power and networking to the tool’s NC or CNC controller. This allowed the machine to simply access up-to-date centrally stored files that are included in the company’s back-up scheme.

At the same time as we were automating our own accounting and word processing facilities and we were soon providing these services to our customers. Pennine Radio Limited now offers a comprehensive range of sales, service and support for Computer systems.

Along with the hardware, we also supply and support software, such as Word Processing, Accountancy Packages, Production Control, Computer Aided Design and Manufacture (CAD/CAM & CNC), Desk Top Publishing (DTP), and most of the many other applications available.

As a Microsoft Partner, we are in the ideal position to supply and support the Microsoft range of products.

If software is not available for your needs, then we can provide custom written software, developed to your requirements. Our electronic design and manufacturing facilities also allow us to develop hardware to suit many individual applications

When choosing computer systems, the trend of Far Eastern manufacturers to flood the market with mass-produced equipment means that great care must be taken in the selection of the various components within system units and subsequent matching together of those units to ensure efficient and reliable machines. Pennine Radio Ltd. have been providing sales, service and support in engineering and electronics to its many satisfied customers for over 50 years and have been working with microcomputers since they first became available around 1977. As an alternative to the purchase of new equipment, it is often more economical to refurbish and upgrade existing equipment. As with anything else, regular care and maintenance can greatly increase the lifetime of your equipment and protect you against the loss of valuable data. Pennine Radio Ltd. will advise on these matters, and even arrange to make regular visits to your premises to carry out such maintenance for you if you wish, outside normal working hours if you prefer.

No matter how much care you take, machines do sometimes break down, and to protect against such a possibility we advise a Service Contract, which we can arrange to cover most items, giving a guaranteed response time to get your system working reliably again.
